RE: WHIHALA BEACH BOAT LAUNCH CLOSED FOR THE SEASON 2025 FOR DREDGING

The City of Whiting has announced that due to low water levels and excessive sand buildup, the Whihala Beach boat launch is closed for the remainder of the 2025 season. These conditions have created hazardous launching areas, particularly in the coves, where boats are at high risk of becoming stuck or damaged. Public safety is top priority.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE BOAT LAUNCH.

Plans are in place for dredging work to be conducted this Fall to help restore safe access and improve conditions for the 2026 season.

I have acquired free boat launching for all current boat club members at the Hammond Marina. You will be required to show your membership card at the gate, as they have a current membership list.

As in the past, if there is a problem, do not get into an argument with the marina personnel at the entrance gate. You can either pay or leave. Just contact myself, WRBC Commodore, Mike Hill at 219-937-2211 or WRBC Treasurer, Bob Mehok, at 219-644-9454 and we will resolve the issue.

RE:    EMERGENCY DREDGING OF HARBOR IN WHITING PARK

To my knowledge, there will be an emergency dredging of our harbor.
There was an independent company that evaluated and did a sounding of
the harbor. I don't have any dates or details as to when this dredging may
occur, but hopefully it will open the harbor up to allow launching.

In the interim, I met with the Harbor Master at the Hammond Marina, and
he is giving the WRBC permission to launch from the Hammond Marina.
He has a current WRBC membership list and has required that any member
from the boat club show their membership card for 2025 to gain free access
to launch.

Thank you for your cooperation, and again, a reminder do not get into an
argument if you are turned away at the entrance gates. Simply pay or leave,
and contact me at 219-937-2211, and we will resolve the issue.
